November 2017 Meeting Recap

The last meeting of the year was all fun, no biz. We said goodbye to the ole Executive (well, not really goodbye ...) and got an early start on the holiday festivities. But before that, we got to see what's been keeping you busy.

Inherited a stack of vintage hankies? Since they’re no longer practical (and uh… grr-ros!) they can still be put to good use. Set them on blocks and voilà, a quick quilt project!


After these great shares, we kicked off the our Holiday Party with some jingly tunes and a sweet spread of treats.


Our annual Bad Santa Gift Exchange did not disappoint. There were several covetable gifts that kept crossing the floor. We sure wore down the hardwood!


Karen’s challenging HST Game is always a crowd-pleaser. Watch who won the finals:



Such a fun meeting and a lovely close to a great year. All the best this holiday season and may all your quilty wishes come true!

Ok, February Meeting Part II. Because 60 pictures seemed like a lot for one post! Our member Elisa, who is originally from Brazil, was celebrating the fact that she had been in Canada for one whole year. And what better way than with this boldly patriotic block!  Elisa also made this lovely nature themed small quilt. She has it all pinned together and ready for quilting. She's made some really nice fabric choices here, allowing it to be abstract while still clearly referencing the natural world. Really lovely work.  Karen brought in this giNORmous quilt, the block for which were made in 2011 as part of a block of the Week club from the Sew Sisters shop. It is made with the Stonehenge fabric line from Northcott.  She had so much of the fabric that she even pieced the back. Very impressive.  Karen also did not mess around when it came to making quilts at the Quilts for Refugees sew down. She made, count them, ONE….  TWO...  THREE... ...

February 2020 Meeting Recap

February  2020 Meeting Recap Hello Toronto Modern Quilters! We know some of you were off at QuiltCon last weekend, but those of us who stayed home got our quilting fix at our fabulous February meeting.  We had a fantastic presentation from Tania Denyer of  Ginger Quilts . She talked about the intersection of art and craft, shared her philosophy on creativity, and left us all asking "What would that look like in fabric?" Plus, we got to see her gorgeous and mouth-watering quilts up close. Inspirational!  Announcements Our Vice President Xandra launched our very first block lotto of 2020! It features "Enchanted" the Kona Colour of the Year, and a block pattern from the  Modern Quilt Guild . August end-of-Summer out-of-town Meeting

The summer has been a bit slow, both on this blog (ahem, sorry about that) and at the guild in general. Many people had vacations, summer plans, prior commitments etc that kept them from our monthly meetings. So attendance was a little low. Which is neither here nor there, merely a fact as the short, precious summer rushes by us. But we wanted to wring one last little bit of sun-filled goodness out of the final weekend before school starts and a different kind of business and routine settles upon us. And so, we had our last meeting of the summer in a bit of a different location. One of our guild members invited us to visit her "up North", though really, it was just an hour outside of the city. Nature obliged us with a beautiful day of spectacular Summer weather. Hot and sunny and just about perfect.  We started with a little lunch.
