May 2020 Newsletter

Hello!

Longer days and warmer weather are finally here! Social distancing measures might need to be in place for a little while longer, but we can certainly still enjoy some time outdoors in the sunshine! And, of course, we can always find time for some quilting. Read on to see what we're up to this month.

This Month's Meeting

Our next virtual meeting will be Sunday May 31st 3:00-5:30. We'll be using Zoom again, and details on how to log in will be sent a day or two before the meeting. In order to participate, you must be a member in good standing, or pay the guest fee. To become a member or be a guest please visit our TMQG online shop!

Here's what's happening:
  • WIP and welcome! Starting at 3:00, share what you have been working on and get encouragement, feedback and advice from guild members.
  • A virtual trunk show by our own Peter Byrne, and some insights on his success at QuiltCon.
  • A spotlight presentation with Three Tips by Sandra Sarner.
  • We'll be announcing the winner of our Logo Design Challenge!
  • We'll be (finally) wrapping up our block lotto! If you made blocks, please "bring" them to the virtual meeting.
  • We'll be having a Social break, so please email us to share photos of any delicious things you've been baking in the last few weeks.
  • And of course, our Virtual Show and share! Please email us to share a quilt!

Other Announcements

Would you like to host a pop-up virtual social event for the guild? Our Zoom account is available for some informal events. Please email us if you have something in mind.
If you signed up to do the President's Challenge, your assigned characteristics can be found on the sign-up spreadsheet. It's not too late to sign up!
If you are participating in the quilt drive for Nova Scotia, please plan to have your blocks in the mail by May 31st. Email us for more information and to sign up to contribute.
We have all been enjoying Brandon's "Everyday Objects" quilts, so the news that he is organising a virtual quilt show is fantastic. Please visit his website for submission information.
Do you have an area of expertise to share with the guild? Sign up to give a spotlight presentation at one of our upcoming meetings! Click here to sign up, or to suggest a topic you would like to see included.
Are you a social media pro? The guid exec would love your help to amp up our presence on social media by creating one or two posts per week (or more if you would like). Email us for more information, or to express your interest.

Looking Forward

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting Melissa Marginet for her online workshop Planning Your Walking Foot Quilting on Sunday June 28th.
Please click here for more details and to put down a $20 deposit to secure your spot in the workshop.

The workshop will feature Marginet's second book Edge-to-Edge Walking Food Quilting Designs which can be purchased in her Etsy Shop. Please order by June 12 to make sure that you get your copy in time for the workshop!
